My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Wednesday, September 29, 2010 | 5 photos

My education and professional career could not be more unrelated to photography than it is today. I consider myself to be a student of the arts and photography is my most nourishing hobby, and I think of it as a release from the stress and drama of day-to-day life.

My love affair with traveling and photography began early. I was born in India and lived in five different cities across India (New Delhi, Chennai, Coimbatore, Bangalore and Hyderabad) through my teenage and adult years. I then chose to move to Seattle without ever traveling outside India before.

The first camera I used was a film camera that my dad owned. He would let me use it occasionally and it got me hooked. Later on, I got my first digital camera in college (a Samsung point-n-shoot camera) and spent endless hours (and lots of storage on her laptop) taking photos. They were mostly photos of nature – flowers, insects, landscapes and such, and it really helped me learn about digital photography.

I'd like to win this contest because there's so much left out there for me to learn, with respect to travel photography. I seek inspiration from Nat Geo photos and several online publications and this will give me a chance to make my hobby into something truly extraordinary and worthwhile
