It happened when I visit Vietnam in the early of 2012. I went to Ben Than Market and wanted to buy something for my family. After surround the market, I looked a beautiful green scarf and I thought to buy it. I smiled to the seller lady and ask for scarfs' price. She said some number and for me it was too way expensive. So I bargained the price and said, "Pleases mam, this is for my mom. I want to give something to her," Suddenly, the lady smiled widely and patted my shoulder. She said that I'm a good daughter and she appreciated me because I still remember with my mom. So, she lower the price of the scarf and said, "Thank you, child. I hope your mom like it." I thought about what the lady said and did to me, then I realize that people in Vietnam are truly appreciate someone who still prioritize the family. I grow up and educate with Asia culture but my mind is full of contradiction which is the family culture sometimes bind me with a lot of strict rules. I don't know how many Western people can understand about how the family law control someone's life but when the lady smiled to me I could feel something comfort my mind. Either I did feel the non-sense of family rules, I admit that I still need my family. I miss them when I travel to Vietnam or when I back study 8-hours far away from my home. I did reminded by the lady about the important of family. Family is the lamp when you lost your way and family is the end of the road, no matter how long road is. Vietnam people with their strong culture seem a good reminder to me. When I got back home to Indonesia, I learn more to love my family and I think it's important not just for people with eastern culture, but also for people who still has breath and family. :)
