Bula! Bula!! We arrived into Fiji at about 1930 and having no accommodation booked, we followed a friendly looking lady to her office. She spent ages trying to find us accommodation for our 3 night stay but with arriving late, it meant the last boats to the islands had already left. On top of that, we had an early morning flight out of Fiji. We were definitely testing her job knowledge. After lots of phone calls she finally found us a little island that we could go to the next morning. Until then we were to stay on the mainland for the night. We arrived at our nice and simple room and went straught for a bite to eat. No traditional Fijian food was on the menu, so i ordered barbequed octopus salad and oresti a beef dish. The garlic in my food was pretty strong, so I offered lots of it to oresti. The following day we were ready to catch our 0845 boat to Bounty Island. The nice lady at the breakfast bar told us that actually thats 0845 Fiji time. She was right, it didn't actually arrive until 1020. Wow, this place is very laid back.We arrived at our island and quickly dressed into our swimmers. The water was crystal clear and the sand so soft. The suns rays were warming us up and it was definitely sunglasses weather! At 1230 the drums were beating, meaning that it was lunchtime. We filled our plates with salad and chicken and after eating it all, we went up for more. The rest of the day was spent relaxing by the water and reading. Dinner time was similar to lunch time except for having some Traditional Fijian songs sung to us by the staff. Believe it or not, even Oresti was clapping along. We had a great nights sleep with the sound of the waves gently crashing against the rocks. The next day after eating breakfast we went for a long swim with our snorkels. The fish and corals were beautiful and the water was nice and cool. I won't say that it was anywhere near as great as the Great Barrier Reef but it was still great. After lunch we went for a lovely walk all around the island. It would have taken less than 40 minutes but Oresti kept stopping to look at crabs hiding under the rocks. He was also trying to poke them with a stick to bring them out. I thought that was a bit mean and didn't think that they would want to come out from hiding after that anyway. You'll never guess who we found while on our walk. Wilson!! He was sitting on the beach and looking rather deflated. I got quite emotional. Someone please pass the word to Tom Hanks. We jumped on a boat to take us to Nadi, the mainland. We couldnt chance a boat picking us up from the island the next morning as it may mean that we will miss our flight. I'm sure that Air Pacific do not go by 'Fiji time'. Although our stay was very short, we had a great time. We were able to have a little rest after 6 crazy weeks of zig-zagging Australia and before our 4 week road trip in New Zealand. The Fijian people were so friendly, happy and extremely laid back. My kind of people!! Let's come back but for longer next time! Sent from my iPhone
