My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited - Mueller Hut, New Zealand
While toiling away at various jobs, I get through each day knowing that I will eventually be back outside, camera in hand. Practice makes perfect and I constantly take photos, learning which methods work best, in an attempt to eventually work as a travel photographer. During my time in the Army, I was taught to look not at a jungle, but instead through it, helping me massively with my photography. I'm passionate about taking photos because it is a lifelong learning experience that will always present new challenges.
As a self-taught photographer, I hope to learn as much as possible from the trip and from Jason's experience. Currently, the majority of my photos are taken purely for myself without any external pressures or restrictions. I wish to learn how to still take great photographs while under the pressures of time and the client's expectations.
I aim to reveal the beauty of the Arabian peninsula to others by letting my images tell a new story about its people and cultures. People always ask me how I take the shots that I do, and after the trip I hope to pass on my technical and theoretical knowledge by teaching as a volunteer at local libraries in inner-city Melbourne.
