Pondicherry

There are lots of French people here, it used to be a part of the French empire, and the restaurants serve what the Lonely Planet describes as an approximation of French food. It is lovely to be in a place where the consumption of alcohol is not treated as if it is a shameful thing. After quite some time in in places in which bars were darkened rooms hidden from view I am now in a place which proudly displays it's drunken guests for all the world to see. Although this is one of those tax free enclaves, like Goa, booze isn't cheap in the restaurants althought there are some bars where you can get a cheap beer, 60p a pint. However, the restaurants are nicer and it's more relaxed, I like having a beer with my meal, and a few more afterwards as well.

I wandered around town yesterday but there isn't really much to see but after sunset I did come across a man having a dump at the side of the road. Apparently it's quite common to see men having a dump, this bloke was about 10 yards from a fairly busy junction, there must have been about 5 or 6 people pass whilst he was about his business.
