Round Trip: The Circle Train in Yangon, Myanmar

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Myanmar | Friday, July 5, 2013 | 5 photos

People have always explored. The curious have often put themselves at risk to see what the world holds. The stories they return with engage, teach, inspire, and enlighten those around them.
I have taken pictures since I was allowed to use my father’s AE-1 when I was 10. I took to it immediately and it has been a constant piece of my exploration of the world around me, and myself. I often find myself exploring a place, through the lens of my existence as well as my camera. The goal is to capture my visceral reaction while tying my curiosity and wonder into the visual image. I want my exploration to inspire people’s curiosity and motivate them to learn more.
I am currently trying to construct photos that work as stand alone images, where context only improves the photo. This is part of the reason I shoot film. It slows me down to consider the image being made. The other reason I prefer film, is that its aesthetic character is more raw and imperfect, just like life.
My future exploration will invariably involve photography and continually developing my technical and image making skills. I will continue to do everything in my power to live my dream and make this my life’s work.
