My Scholarship entry - Unoism

My name is Uno Yi. I am a recent graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, currently working as a freelance photojournalist with local news agencies. As a former reporter, photographer, and photography editor in several Midwest cities, I am grateful to have had many opportunities which have allowed me to learn about the culture. I love being a photojournalist because it allows me to meet diverse people.
In addition to all of this, I have learned how to enjoy being a visual journalist. It is a privilege that offers me opportunities to meet new people. I met Missouri Contemporary Ballet Company’s dancers. I hung out with Roman, 7, living in Ed’s Trailer Park. I observed a couple who have been married for more than 50 years. I had a long conversation with a senior from South Korea studying finance and banking at MU, who has to leave Columbia without a degree. Through all these experiences, I learned everyone has an inspiring story.
Now, I truly want to extend my vision to the possibilities for the beauty of photography for something different that I have never experience before, and I believe this opportunity will let me find new ways to pursue this career.
