My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Italy | Thursday, July 4, 2013 | 5 photos

My name is Alessandro, I'm 27 years old and I am Italian. I'm a last year PhD student in Chemistry, so learning is my work. I carry out my research in the field of the materials for green energy application. Due to this "work", I am in contact with different imaging techniques for solids, like scansion electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) or diffraction (XRD). I can "see" the matter at an atomic level, maybe you can look for some images on internet, you only need to type their acronym and look. If you do that, you can easily understand which is my curse: they are not real pictures, but only computer reconstructions. I can see and I can't see at the same time. So photography is the way I use to fight my little malediction, to compensate my lack of real images and to satisfy my curiosity. I am a climber also, a poetry dabbler writer and I love travel, find out new places and cultures: I would not stop exploring. Never. Learning always something new makes me feel a better person; it makes me feel alive. Only one last thing: when I was a child and people ask me for my future, my answer always was "I surely want to be a photographer for National Geographic!"
