Bus crash

THAILAND | Thursday, 26 January 2006 | Views [3508]

The bus I was on crashed into the back of a lorry and a metal rod went into my leg. I was taken to hospital by ambulance and had stitches. One week later the wound was swollen so they had to re-open it and empty the collected blood. From then on it was necessary to get the wound cleaned at the hospital and take antibiotics. I was advised it may take a while to heal, but it was ok to travel on it, just to keep it clean.

When I got to laos, almost a month later, i went to get it checked again by a western doctor as it still hadn't healed. He advised that I get a flight to Bangkok and get it checked out as soon as possible, he suspected it coule be a bone infection as it was swollen. He suggested a week in hospital on intravenous drugs may be necessary. I called world nomads to confirm the costs could be covered. The doctor in Bangkok x-rayed the leg, but there is no bone infection. He advised to keep taking the antibiotics and to keep cleaning the wound, it would heal in time.

He confirmed it was fine to get on with travelling, so i got a flight back to Vientiane to meet my friend again.
