My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Canada | Monday, July 8, 2013 | flickr photos

My name is Tim Dinh. My parents were refugees from Vietnam; they ended up in a small rural city called Brockville. I received my B.Comm and am now a property tax consultant living in Toronto. I drive a pick-up truck.

I’ve never taken a photography course. I read photography texts in my spare time. I once left work so that I could catch a seminar by Seth Resnick in order to pick his brains about shooting stock photos.

Passion. I’ve dragged myself out of bed before dawn to catch the morning light over Niagara Falls – something that millions before me have shot.

I knew if I didn’t, I’d miss a great opportunity. I was rewarded with photos that no one else will ever reproduce exactly the same way. Carpe Diem. The feedback I get from my friends via my social networks fuels my desire to keep shooting to capture better pictures.

I want to shoot pictures that I would be proud to submit to National Geographic. I hope Jason will be my mentor and allow me to listen and learn from him.

I want to better express themes through photo. I want to learn how to focus on ‘local colour’ in my photography. I want to go beyond the ‘post-card’. I want my photos to sing to its viewer with simplicity.
