My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

United Kingdom | Monday, June 17, 2013 | 5 photos

I am 10176828. For three years I have been identified by this number. My student identification to Manchester Metropolitan University. For three years I have studied Film and Media, despite desiring to be studying photography fulltime, but then again, how many people have got what they wanted with their degree? what does a degree even mean? University moulds into what you have to be to succeed in life, you learn by the book. Not with photography. I have never been told how to use a camera, how to use photoshop. I simply had a passion and made photography my own. If i took a bad picture, I would fix it. there are no limits when it comes to photography, the only limits are the ones you set for yourself. I dont want to be known as a number anymore, i want to be known for what I have a passion for and not what my degree is. I want to explore what my limits are, what I have left to learn, not only in the art of photography, but as a person aswell. I want to be taken seriously and show people that photography is a real profession, and one that does not require a degree. I want to be known as Sarah McLaughlin, the travel photographer, the girl who proved them wrong.
