My Scholarship entry - Journey through the Salish Sea

USA | Sunday, November 23, 2014 | 5 photos

In 2010 I received a camera as a Christmas gift. I had no idea what an effect it would have on my life! My primary interest is photographing images of nature and being able to travel the world with that goal in mind. I currently work as a naturalist on a whale watch vessel on San Juan Island. I began posting my photos taken during whale watch excursions online through social media. I noticed immediately how a photo made people care for the nature being depicted.
Over the years, my photography has improved. I’ve had the initiative to study, but I still have so much to learn. This scholarship would be an invaluable educational experience that would help me convey a visual story in an innovative manner.
Photography makes me very joyful and is one of my most serious passions. I love to travel and I want to someday explore the world. So many people are unable to leave the borders of their homes. What a special opportunity to be able to transport someone to the farthest reaches of the globe through the enchantment of a photo. I can’t think of any other way I’d rather be devoting my time than giving people a way to see and care for the world through the allurement of a compelling image.
