My Scholarship entry - Unlikely place of hope for penguins

I’ve always loved being outdoors and learning about the natural world, which set me on the path to become a biodiversity conservation scientist. In recent years I’ve felt disillusioned with conservation science and earlier this year I made the final decision to switch career to photography. I’ve come to the realisation that images speak louder than words.
I’m excited to finally focus on my photography, a passion since early childhood after being given a very basic film camera by my cousin. Since then I have carried a camera as an extra appendage, to capture the memories of my life journey. I am currently completing an online photography course to improve my skills and networking with inspiring fellow photographers.
I would love to be able to share conservation stories, specifically the link to human welfare and actions, with my photography. For conservation to be successful, communities need to form an emotional connection with the natural environment around them. I want to learn to help create these connections through my photography. Spending significant time in the field with Jason will provide invaluable opportunities to learn the ropes from a story-telling photography expert.
