My Scholarship entry - Island Time
Antigua & Barbuda | Wednesday, October 22, 2014 | 5 photos
After serving 2+ years in Vanuatu for with the US Peace Corps, I continued to travel around the world for a number of years trying to document all of the interesting cultures and customs I encountered. I eventually ended up living in rural Alaska where I worked as a reporter for a local public radio station and then at the University of Alaska. While working at the University, I was able to achieve my goals of higher education by receiving my Masters Degree in Rural Development. I would like to continue my travels and work with the rural communities I visit. I would like to be chosen for this scholarship because I think it would help me take my amateur photography hobby to the next level. I have tinkered with cameras and darkrooms since I was young, and I made the transition into digital years ago, however, I feel that I still have much to learn. Especially in regards to photographing people and wildlife. I would like to learn from Jason Edwards how to capture amazing images while earning the trust of typically shy locals. I have had difficulties with this and learning from an expert would be helpful in my future work and travels in rural and remote communities around the world.
