My Scholarship entry - The colorful people of Nepal

Nepal | Wednesday, October 29, 2014 | 5 photos

I'm a social worker from LA, CA, but in my fantasy life, I'm a travel photographer. I grew up fortunate enough to travel to many countries, and loved taking snapshots with my point and shoot. In 2008 I graduated to a "real" camera, inheriting my Mom's Canon film camera. That began my desire to travel more and take photographs, not just snapshots. In 2011 I spent 5 weeks in Africa, and took 9k photos (the blessing and the curse of digital cameras). I was able to be up close with baboons, cheetas, and caracals, among others, on an animal rescue site. I then spent 3 weeks on safari in S. Africa, and was thrilled to get shots of the Big 5. While some assert that taking pictures takes away from the moment, I feel the opposite is true. When I'm focusing on getting that perfect shot, I'm completely present in the moment, and the photos then bring me right back there every time I look at them. In 2013 I traveled to Nepal, and discovered that I loved taking slice of life shots of the people around me. I would love to develop my skills in both wildlife and people photography, and be able to share my unique experiences with others through the photos I take.
