My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

USA | Wednesday, July 3, 2013 | flickr photos

I was born in southwest Colorado and grew up just due south of the Lizardhead Wilderness in a town called Rico Colorado. Rico is a unique "DIY" mountain town which has prompted me with the skills to be a happy adventurer for life. I pursue wilderness and remoteness, but I also pursue art and culture. I love adventure through and through. I am a NOLS alumni, which has contributed greatly to my love for the wilderness and my skills as a person. I have always been behind a camera, but it wasn't until high school did I also develop a passion for photography. I was able to use a darkroom and bring images to life for the first time in my life. Mixing photography with my love for adventure was a recipe for life for me. Photography became my best friend as a youth, it was my connection to the world, it means everything to me. I have dreamed of being a Nat Geo photographer for a lifetime! Ever since I met a photographer from Nat Geo as a child, who happened to be doing a story on my home town Rico I have made it a dream to live that life. Which I do live that life, as an adventure photographer, just not professionally. Please grant me this opportunity. -Jesse Robertson
