My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Germany | Friday, July 5, 2013 | 5 photos
Like others when they were at school, the photos in my textbooks caught my attention and held it better than the text did. That a single photo can transcend the barriers of language and culture to speak so powerfully and clearly has always fascinated me. Photography to me is more than just documenting, it's archiving emotions and stories.
I picked up photography just before my studies brought me overseas. While abroad, I caught the travel bug, and also realised how much more one sees when familiarity is no longer taken for granted. Now I try to see with new eyes, and finding unique perspectives gives me great satisfaction.
I've always aspired to be a travel photographer, but thus far it's remained a pipe dream although I'm determined to pursue a photography career after completing my master’s degree. This scholarship will not only provide the chance to visit an intriguing place and provide exposure for my work, it'll also give me the opportunity to learn first hand from an experienced professional. I want to go beyond just taking pretty photographs to making images that have a story to tell coupled with a strong sense of aesthetics, and I believe this will help me achieve my dream.
