My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Kenya | Friday, July 5, 2013 | 5 photos
I'm an aspiring photographer studying English and Art History in University, two areas I have always excelled in. Photojournalism has naturally become a major pursuit of mine. Being the chair person for the University Photographic Society people are constantly telling me that I have a bright future and I believe this learning experience could help me realise my potential. I have always dreamed of travel, it is the very thing I thrive on, I feel I see the world in a unique way and have always wanted to share my vision with others. I see beauty in pain and adversity, a witnessing experience that enlivens our humanity. The debate over the morality of war photography has always left me with the conclusion that ethically these photographs are the most important weapon in the fight to end war. The photos in this application are from a trip I took to volunteer in an AIDS clinic, helping infected women and children. I documented these people to challenge the reality encountered in my sheltered home town in Ireland. Photography previously helped me overcome a personal battle with depression, and I believe my photography, given the chance, will inspire others.
