One week in Bhutan, taking pictures with somebody who helps me along sounds pretty much like paradise. I have a technical photographic education but little experience in how to structure and arrange a good documentary story.
I worked for a small newspaper during my time at college and I studied graphic-design for two years in Cologne, so photography has always been a very big and passionate part of my life. What I admire most about it, is its ability to tell stories. Photography is a great way to share these stories and moments with people who prefer to stay at home or who simply do not have the possibility to travel. It makes it possible for me to bring them a little bit closer to the world, as different and as fascinating as it is. And of course, to try and make them understand that even though they stay at home, their every action has a huge influence on the world we all live in.
The pictures I took are from a small fisher town called Pucusana in Peru. Life there is very simple. People live of what the men bring home when they come back from their journeys at the ocean, often several weeks long. It is a hard job to endure, and the men go through with it just to be able to feed their families. I was lucky to be there when one of these small wooden boats finally arrived. It took a few days of waiting, because nobody can actually tell when they will come back. In my pictures you see men and fish, because that’s really what their lives is about. You see the hardness and different emotions of their work.
I would love to have the chance to show these kinds of experiences and of course discover more of them.
