My Scholarship entry - The Streets: Living and breathing
Cambodia | Tuesday, November 18, 2014 | 5 photos
I have been a long time observer of photo journalism and the documentation of raw life. 12 months ago I was able to purchase my first camera and I undertook a photography techniques short course. Once I became equipped and knew how to use my camera, I wayfarered to Indochina to further practice on my own the craft of street photography and photo journalism. Each day I would wake up early, arm myself with my camera and step out the front door to see what I could find - life, living and breathing on the streets. I would spend most of the day wandering the streets, turning left and right, until I found a subject to engage with. I found that the camera took down so many barriers and gave people a mutual moment to engage in, without fear or prejudice. Most often I only needed a smile and a polite nod to take the photograph initially, then a conversation of curiosity would follow afterwards. If feel that there are so many people in this world that have a story to tell, and yet a large majority of us are conveniently ignorant to those who do not have a voice.
