the flavor of Switzerland

Worldwide | Sunday, August 8, 2010 | 5 photos

This is a journey of Switzerland, which I took last year. The first picture depicts the sophisticating railway system at Interlaken, which this country is famous of. The picture was taken half minute before the train came. Trains never show up until at the exact time shown on the timetable. The second photo is the lobby of a very small hotel I stayed in Zermatt, a non-smoking town at the foot of Alps. The decoration was so artistic and formalistic that reminded me of art being everywhere. After settling down, I found the primitive and simplistic architecture style, as the third picture showed, just reflected the way of residences’ attitudes to the life. When I was walking around the town, two bicyclists just showed up. I captured the backs of them. They seemed intense, but their hearts may be relaxed. The last picture can answer the reason why tourists pour into this little town. Namely, the most well known mountain of Alps, Matthorn is located here. This photo was shot at 4 AM. But people had already filled up this best view spot, astonishing by the glamour of Matthorn. This is the Switzerland that I perceived. People care about the precision, but they’re also romantic. They own the best landscapes of the nature, they enjoy it and they share it.
I’m an overseas student from China. Now I’m studying at university of Sydney majoring photomedia. My parents never expect me to be an artist because they all come from engineering backgrounds. However, I seemed to heritage this rigorous character mixed with the aesthetic eager. Photography has been the best friend since dad sent me a cannon dsrl as birthday gift at 17 year-old. After finish my bachelor degree of graphic design in Beijing, I decided to travel to new places for inspiration. Cézanne said “the landscape thinks itself in me, and I am its consciousness.” For me, the landscape speaks itself in my photos, and I’m pleased to be its expresser.
