My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
New Zealand | Tuesday, July 2, 2013 | 5 photos
Fascinated by its ability to visualise memories of places visited, photography took me on a journey around the globe and made me the person I am today.
Born in Germany, I soon got curious what more than the small-town monotony I was exposed to the world had to offer. At only 17 - after touring Europe with like-minded friends - I found myself on a flight to the other side of the world and never returned. All on my own in a foreign environment, my camera soon became my new best friend.
Now living in beautiful New Zealand with my partner, I started my photographic studies at university. The mediums power to visually communicate played an important role in being able to express myself as a person, without effectual language skills. My new home had a certain charm that I fell in love with and still seek to capture every day. Having lived here for a while, I enjoy the familiarity and connection I have with the places and people I photograph but find great pleasure in looking at them in a different way - through a viewfinder.
Graduating shortly, the practical experience I would gain from the scholarship would be a welcome opportunity and great start to making a career of my passion!
