My Scholarship entry - Tanzania

Tanzania | Thursday, October 30, 2014 | 5 photos

I am a New Zealand English-language teacher who has spent the last 10 years travelling and teaching around the world - 72 countries at last count. I do this because it's exciting to experience new cultures and new environments. I first picked up a camera merely to document these experiences. What I did not realise at the time was that photography would grow on me and become a passion. Now, when I travel, photography is paramount. I enjoy shooting landscapes, macro, street, candids and wildlife - and there are plenty of opportunities for all of these while travelling. This year, for the first time, my photographs have begun to attract interest from publishers. I have been approached - unsolicited - by agencies UK and Australian agencies for the rights to some of my shots. I have also been approached by an PR firm to photograph personalities as part of a three-week road trip in Australia, which is expected to commence next month. In short, my photographic "hobby" is rapidly becoming something bigger and more exciting than I ever imagined. I want to take advantage of these opportunities and am considering a career change. Travelling with a pro would be an awesome learning opportunity!
