My Scholarship entry - Venice of Africa
Nigeria | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 10 photos
I’m a 20 year old Egyptian self-taught photographer based in West Africa, I have worked in the field for over three years. Covering my home country, Egypt. I covered Elections, social and cultural stories, Military Coup of 2013, Crackdowns by security forces on students and anti-coup protesters. Early 2014 my work has also taken me to South Sudan where I reported on the armed rebellion and the crisis there.I have also extensively documented social life and news in Nigeria following the protests by #BringBackOurGirls campaign and documenting Makoko a waterfront slum neighborhood home to thousands in Lagos.
I am extremely keen to win this scholarship as I believe this is a very good chance to expand my abilities and skills, and following Jason Edwards would be a lifetime experience for me. I’m aware that this will be a new experience for me I haven’t had the chance to do something related to wildlife and landscapes, yet I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to achieve the assignment.
I won Egyptian Press Award becoming the youngest ever recipient of the, at the age of 17. Also the youngest participant to have been selected for the Magnum Foundation’s Human Rights 2014 Fellowship in New York.
