Today there´s peace but as Hmong people are proud to have their own culture, different to the vietnamese culture, they are tolerated by the vietnamese government but only to a certain point: in 2014 at least 8 Hmong were arrested as they protested for freedom of religion and belief because of a government campaign forcing the ethnic minority group to return to older funeral practices.

In the 60ies and 70ies the CIA recruited thousands of Hmong people in the neighboring country Laos to fight against invading military forces from Northern Vietnam and the communist, known as the Secret War, during the Vietnam War and the Laotian Civil War.

04-Hmong life is a hard life. Temperatures drop down to 0°C during winter - and the hilly area makes it hard to access. This is one reason why their culture was preserved for a long time - but the worldwide modernisation already started there, too.
