My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Ecuador | Friday, May 24, 2013 | 5 photos
I grew up in front of the camera as a photographer's daughter, but slowly learned how much more you can find out about a person by looking at the photos they have taken rather than the photos they are in.
I am a recent graduate of the University of Miami with a degree in Visual Journalism and held multiple jobs/internships in the realm of photojournalism, including photographer for the school's newspaper, The Miami Hurricane; intern to the photo editor at a small Wisconsin newspaper, The Peninsula Pulse; Deputy Director of Photographer for The Miami Planet, an online newspaper created in conjunction with the 21st Annual Conference for the Society of Environmental Journalists; and photo/media intern for the RJ Dunlap Marine Conservation Center, a shark research/tagging team affiliated with the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School for Marine and Atmospheric Science.
After working in many different realms of photography, I can now with confidence say that journalism is the path I want to be on because of the multitude of lives and cultures I can experience because of it. I am not a belly dancer, a shark researcher, or a hunter, but with a willing mind and my camera, I can be.
