My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Vietnam | Thursday, July 4, 2013 | flickr photos
The set of photos I have submitted exemplifies the kind of journey that drives my passion for photography. I want to be able to explore new cultures, discover their traditions and capture their sincere actions. I come from a mixed cultural background and throughout the years I have been trying to understand and appreciate them through photography.
I realised I wanted to capture the world when I came back to Vietnam for the first time, after my family moved to the Czech republic in my early years. That is why I have selected these images to represent myself and to tell a story of self discovery, an identity I've carried with me without having truly embraced it. I felt like a foreigner, yet somehow I felt familiar with the place.
With cultures colliding more and more these days, I find great value in uncovering their roots. Greenland to me, appears to be one of the purest cultures imaginable. I have previously been to Iceland and remain to this day amazed by the wild, serene scenery. Whilst there, I was very close to jumping on the next plane to Nuuk. It is a very lucky coincidence that this opportunity came up because I am fascinated by that part of the world.
