Hi, my name is Kanmani and I speak best in pictures. Photography, languages and cultures fascinate me. I love photography because I love telling stories, and photography gives me a voice to do this. It’s also because to me, photography is magic.

Roald Dahl once said that only those who believe in magic would ever find it. I believe in it, and I find it in my photography. ‘Magic’ is the only word that I felt could aptly describe an art which could freeze a moment in time, and has the power to evoke countless emotions as we revisit the moment. Also, in a world where everyone looks at the same thing, but sees something different, photography allows others to see the world through my eyes for a few moments.

Winning this scholarship would mean so much to me because such learning opportunities are scarce where I come from, where it is also difficult for females to break into the industry. This opportunity to me, is something that can turn my life around and be the start to a career of my dreams.

In short, I speak best in pictures, and photography is my dialogue with the world. I would be most grateful if you gave me a chance for my voice to be heard by the rest of the world.
