    A fond farewell to two of the local characters. She's even shorter than you Mum!!!! Views[310] Views[385] Some of these rocks are huge and all were moved by hand.     Views[125] Views[142] The wonder that is Machu Pichu - words and photos cannot do justice to this wonderful Incan achievement. Every block fits together so well and no mortar or tools. All they used were large rocks to cut the blocks. Incredible is an understatement. Views[166] Machu Pichu at sunrise - shame about the weather but it was well worth getting up early for.     At least you would never be late for the train. Views[166] One of the locals just hangin around. You can't imagine how brown and leathery their skin is but they always have a smile. Views[166] Views[136] Views[139] The train goes straight through the middle of town. All supplies are bought in on the train and men carry or barrow them to the respective business. Not a job for the faint hearted. Views[139]
     
    No lifts in South America, just lots and lots and lots of stairs. Views[153] Is 9.30am too early for a beer - not if it's served in a wine glass!!!! Not much to do in town. Views[184] The mountains are rising up behind the houses. If the river doesn't get them the mountain slips may. Views[152] The river was silting up so they use this digger every day. The sand that is removed is used for sandbags 'just in case'. Views[144] A constant queue of people and constant stream of buses each day. We caught the first bus at 5.30am and they keep going all day. Views[151]
     
    The river that destroyed this town. Views[149] Aques Calientes - the gateway to Machu Pichu. Doesn't look too impressive but has a certain charm. It's hard to believe that this town was washed away in floods only a few years ago. Views[171] Excitement building - catching the train from Ollyantambo to Aques Calientes. We are on the 'posh' one that has panoramic windows. Seemed a great idea except at some ungodly hour of the morning it was misty!!! Views[189]
