My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Indonesia | Thursday, July 4, 2013 | flickr photos

I took my first roll of film when I was 10 years old. My Dad had an old Pentax spotmatic manual camera, and he taught me the basics of exposure. I still remember many of the first photos I took in those first few years, most of them crap, but with the thrill of doing something you knew you were built to do.
27 years later I have a loving wife and three kids and own a small custom furniture business in Canada. I like working with wood, but my dream is to pursue my photographic passion professionally.
I am semi - colour blind. I still see colour, just not the way you do. Most people laugh and wonder how I can take proper photographs. I like to think it's about perception and story. It's not such a bad thing to see past the colour.
Photography is my passion. I love the journey it takes to make a photograph. I love that a photo can be a bridge to someone who wasn't there. I love that a great photo can somehow stir something deep within, or provoke new thought.
If I am chosen to undertake this adventure with Jason, I will be drinking from a fire hose for ten days, watching and learning what it takes to be a true professional.
