My Scholarship entry - Bewitched by Bali

"Not all those who wander are lost" is a quote everyone has been throwing my way ever since I started becoming the Nomad of my friends and family. I've spent years pondering whether or not I was lost, and what I was going to do if in fact I was. Through these years, and between these experiences I can proudly affirm that I am quite lost-- indefinitely and willingly lost: To which I respond with this quote, "I am lost and take no pleasure in being found." I am more so myself when I am alone and can't even spot myself on a map. Perhaps, in some hypothetical instance, I decide to leave my job and buy a one-way ticket to embark on the pilgrimage of Spain to photograph and write about my experiences. I can't imagine a worse feeling than knowing exactly where I am and what I'm going to do today. The best way to manifest art in this way is when you leave at an ungodly hour in the morning, pick a direction down the road, and document every experience you have on the way until you pass out. To embark on this path that may not be deemed the safest. This is when you have the ability to show the world something they may never have experienced in their lifetime. And that is the gift we give.
