Stillness Speaks

My Scholarship entry - Feel

Japan | Sunday, November 23, 2014 | 5 photos

I recently spent time in Kyoto, Japan as my first experience on an overseas adventure. For such a time, I have been enthralled in the changing seasonal beauty of this ancient city and the artistry the Japanese cultural has accomplished. This was my first chance to capture the moments of stillness I experienced as a young man exploring a city though the lens of a camera. I found the journey to be immensely humbling and of ineffable value. I believe I should be chosen for this once in a lifetime experience because I believe it is these kinds of experiences that will help grow and find my way in the world. My favourite quote for this reason by Leo F. Buscaglia. “The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn, feel, change, grow or love. Chained by his certitude, he is a slave; he has forfeited his freedom. Only the person who risks is truly free.”
