7.47pm Renner Springs Roadhouse. This Road train had just pulled up for the night and the owner cranked up its generator which scared a flock of birds, one of which is in the picture. Even when stopped the road trains are an imposing figure. The road trains were undoubtedly king of the road in the outback as the mass of road kill along the way testified.

1.22 pm Kynuna. In North West Queensland with the temperature hovering around 45 degrees, there is nowhere to hide from the sun. There are no hills, no trees, no features to contrast the photo against, just the scrub, road and sky.

2.20 pm On the road between Winton and Longreach. Almost every animal sighted on the ride had met a grisly end via a truck bumper providing an easy lunch for the waiting birds. The smell of the carcass would linger for a long time before and after passing the deceased animal on a bike.
