My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

USA | Thursday, July 4, 2013 | flickr photos

At 4, I wanted to be an explorer. This was dampened as I thought everything had already been explored, but my wanderlust remained. Born in Mexico, I moved to the USA when I was 9. Through my life, I always felt like I belonged, not in the States and not in Mexico, but in-between. No matter what, I wanted experience the world as more than a tourist.
My introduction to photography was at 17, but I had interest in it long before. I would happen upon photographs and be mystified by how photography freezes a moment and preserves it in time. In an ever-amplifying chorus of images around the world, I try to bring an observer into a perspective only I can provide so that he/she can understand as I understood.
My dream of living the world is still alive; with that now is a desire to share with others what I experience. This is an opportunity to do something I have always wanted. I believe I am a worthy of this scholarship because I intend to push myself hard so that I can make a living doing something people like you do, and I know that I will need mentorship. Through this, some day, the photographs I make of places I go will be powerful enough to bring compassion to people.
