My Scholarship entry - Indigo Rock & Rollers

Indigo Skate Parks ethos on introducing the Zulu community to skateboarding fascinated me and I was eager to volunteer and learn more. It was my first time travelling further a field alone, with no address, familiar faces or knowledge of the language.Jumping into the deep end taught me a lot about shooting out in the field and I gained a number of skills I would love to take further on this expedition. I challenged myself to soak up and learn as much as possible by taking risks and making mistakes. To express ourselves, teach and laugh with the kids through photography reinforced to me how powerful a form of communication photography can be and what pushes me to discover and document. I'm a keen explorer and have always been inspired by NG magazines, collecting hundreds over the years. The travel bug has sent me trekking and backpacking around the world yet have itchy feet and an endless list of places I hope to venture to. NG photographers push the boundaries of travel photography and I’d be so appreciative to experience this first hand. I’d put my absolute all into this project and would cherish these life skills and greater insight of what it is to be a photojournalist.
