My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

My name is Jennifer Mackenzie, I am a full time student and Mother. My passion for photography started as a love for photographing animals, but quickly turned to the reality that I need to make money to feed my family. I realize that is is an opportunity that I will never have again. If I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to fulfill my passion for wildlife/travel photography I will not waste one moment. I will be dedicated to capturing the reality of life in South Africa and helping Mr Edwards as he works though his assignment.
As a young girl I spent my time working in various horse barns and at the local wildlife park in Nova Scotia. I was responsible for maintaining a creative and stimulating spaces for the animals to live. I have a very good working knowledge of animal behavior for animals such as wolves, bears, cougars, eagles, cranes and vultures, moose, deer, wild sheep, and many others. I realise that the captive animals I have experience with and the wild animals in Africa will be very different but I feel that I have the knowledge I need to stay safe while creating magnificent images.
The program that I am taking at school is for photography, as part of the program I am required to do an 8 day practicum with a photographer of my choice. I believe this would be a great opportunity to fulfill my responsibility as a student while getting a glimpse at the life I had always dreamed of.
Thank you and good luck with finding a suitable candidate.
All the best,
Jennifer
