    Back behind the celebrations men prepare curry in vats for the wedding feast. Views[296] A local villager prepares food for the feast that will feed the whole village. Cows were slaughtered out back and baskets of rice were prepared. I found myself in the prep line at one point and was passing plates out to feed the 500 people that comprise the village. Views[280] Heavy rains poured down on the celebration but everyone was able to crowd under the tarps until it passed, avoiding the holes above that would splash down on us intermittently. A tradition of theirs is to throw the bride’s underwear on the roof of her husband’s house to ward off rain on their wedding day – it almost worked. Many of the dirt roads remained flooded after we left. Views[391] My friend and her new husband carrying his sword signifies the husband protecting his wife. The entire wedding party and guests walked for over an hour up and down the roads of the village while locals lined the sides of the street. Music was pumped out of a loudspeaker that was carried in a cart behind the party along with its own generator! Views[617] I was invited to my friend’s wedding in a small village named Merendeng in South Lombok, Indonesia. She is Canadian and invited her friends and family to this lush beautiful island to perform the ceremony for his family in their native traditions.
