The Bats of Miagao

My Scholarship entry - The Bats of Miagao

I was hiking in the Alaska Mountain Range, south of Chena, Alaska when I realized I was being followed by two black wolves (that I could see). Too far in to turn back before night fall, all I could do was press on and fight the fear. This went on for two days. When I got back to civilization alive I was excited to tell my story but no one really believed me without once asking if I had a photo. After that I bought my first camera, summer 2007. I loved sharing stories of my travels in the military. In part, it began as a duty to my mother to share this life apart from the nest. Eventually I looked to landscape photography as my creative outlet. However, after this past year of traveling I find my self loving the stories I come across and the characters that tell them to me. I'm a nomad by design, a photographer by circumstance, and a story teller by choice. I feel that I should be chosen for this scholarship because I believe that connecting people by the stories they have to share is best way to make the world small enough for the everyday person to swallow. When we are all connected, we change the world for the better. I want to become that connecting force.
