My Scholarship entry - A Rugged but Endangered Coast

Who is a radical? According to our Prime Minister its anyone who tries to protest against his mission to extract as many resources as possible from the country while leaving environmental protection in the dust. I feel uneasy when our governments care more about increasing GDP than about the very ecology we depend upon. This is why I decided to take up photography as a means of expressing nature and the people, animals, and plants that call it home.
I have always had a passion for exploring my home country. Growing up I traveled across Canada during multiple road trips from Vancouver to Halifax to the Yukon and everywhere in between. I care very deeply about the province I live in (British Columbia) so I have tried to capture it in my photographs and share them with everyone I know. In doing so, I have inspired people to get out and experience nature for themselves.
I have done extensive hiking, kayaking, canoeing, and snowshoeing in my life and this has made me appreciate how diverse and rich my home is.
My photos have been used by Canadian Geographic Magazine, BC Parks, and Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre to name a few. My long term goal is to be a conservation photographer.
