"Owning a camera does not make one a photographer. Rather it makes one the owner of a camera."
I am not sure who the author of that quote is but I think the person has captured very well the challenging and yet rewarding art of photography.
Am I an aspiring photographer or just the owner of a camera? I like to think the former. Photography has made me really observe life instead of just pass through it, it has rewarded me with the pure joy of some magical moments captured on film, and it is still trying to teach me the hardest - patience. In our everyday lives we like to think that we have mastery and control. If things are not turning out the way we expect them to, they will certainly do so with some extra effort on our part. Photography on the other hand has taught me to be humble, to respect nature with its own laws, and to regard patience as a virtue instead of an excuse.
Many people can make interesting pictures if they happen to be at the right place in the right time. I believe I have mastered the skill to make consistently good photos, by seeing through the ordinary and bringing in my intuition and intellect.
