My Scholarship entry - Arts and crafts of the Cusco region.

My name is Shawn Harquail. I'm a 40 year old French Canadian, amateur travel photographer and professional Internet marketer. I enjoy taking pictures in places near and far from my home, and I love talking to locals to learn about my subjects. Whether it’s a small rural farm a short drive away, or an ancient temple halfway around the world, beauty is everywhere, and I have this urge to know exactly what I'm shooting, its history, its story. After a shoot or a trip, I can spend hours researching what I've discovered to find additional facts and broaden my understanding. To me, it’s never enough to simply take great photographs, it’s also about telling the story behind it. That’s why, when I publish a photo online or do a slideshow at home, I always describe in detail what I'm showcasing. The reason why I want to be chosen for this scholarship is very simple. I want to be chosen because I'm an avid learner, and this experience will make me a better photographer and a better storyteller. It’s as simple as that, and no matter what the outcome, I will continue to travel and tell stories. With that, I thank you sincerely for looking and my photos and reading my stories.
