My Scholarship entry - Observations

I'm a recent graduate of Norwich University of the Arts studying Film and Moving Production. Since graduating I've realised I want to pursue a career in photography, a past-time I've been practising since I was 15. I first became interested in photography when a family friend gave me an Olympus OM-1N as a present. I learnt how to use my camera through trial and error; my camera went everywhere with me, capturing holiday snaps to political demonstrations. What interested me so much about the medium, and what motivated me to keep it up, was how you could preserve a moment and create a unique story that would be timeless. Learning photography on an analogue camera also helped drive me to improve my skills; there was nothing worse than the disappointment of getting very few photographs, or none at all, back from having them developed. It was a very efficient method of learning the technical side of photography. Of course, I still have a lot to learn. I'm currently taking a part-time digital photography course, plus some of my photographs are going to be exhibited in a local gallery at the beginning of next month. These are small steps that I hope will help me progress my ambitions.
