My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Philippines | Friday, July 5, 2013 | 3 photos
There is something about photography that is both frustrating and satisfying. Something about holding the viewfinder close, composing and recomposing the scene, and then finally deciding to hit the shutter - zen-like and intimate. You make that deliberate attempt to catch the lastest, faintest, streak of light that makes the perfect photo. Then to your dissatisfaction, or perhaps the unconscious joy of knowing you will never be satisfied, it's not what you hoped it would be.
My photographs are two things – they’re visions and homages. They are visions that exist only in the realm of my mind and then later on translated through my camera lens. They’re homages to things that stir my guts – they make me sad, happy, frustrated, or even angry.
Why do I deserve the travel scholarship?
Because I am exactly the kind of person that you’re looking for – someone who will keep the ball rolling; someone who pushes for quality; someone who will further the horizons of travel photography; one who is keen on making a mark; a disruptor; a change inducer. Given enough guidance and mentorship, I believe I will be able to do this all, if not surpass expectations.
