    As he did this happily and also took the time to cut the tops off the coconuts to make it easier for us to drink, we realized the shoes he had taken off and left on the ground before climbing the tree had little to no soles left. We gave him 20 tongan pa’anga (dollars) to which he told us he was going to buy a new pair of shoes with the money. This comment made us realize how fortunate we are in our own country, and just how much we take for granted. Not all are as fortunate as ourselves. Views[313] Many rural Tongan’s rely on plantation and agriculture (such as banana’s, vanilla beans and coconut) to sell at markets for as little as 20c. As we were driving we found this man walking along the side of the road – our taxi driver stopped and asked him if he would climb a coconut tree and fetch some coconuts so we could experience fresh milk from the shell. Views[372] A lot of pride is taken in Tongan graves in cemeteries. Each grave is colourful and covered in wreaths, flowers and coloured tapa cloth gathered from tapa plantations and made by locals. Views[512] A very religious country, all the money goes back into the Churches. They would have to be the most beautiful buildings on the islands – colourful and maintained. Sunday is the day of God – the streets are eerily quiet except for the harmonies of the hymns coming from the Churches echoing through the distance. Views[370] This pristine and untouched beautiful part of the pacific is made up of 176 islands – 50 of these islands combined populate a total of approx 103,000 people. Surrounded by crystal clear water and coral reefs this place needs to be visited at least once to appreciate the pure beauty. Views[288]
