The Majestic Peace of South East Asia

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Vietnam | Monday, July 1, 2013 | 6 photos

Having recently finished my degree in Communication and Environmental studies in New Zealand, I decided to seek the wilderness of South East Asia in order to find my ambitions in life. My interest in Photography, coupled with my eagerness to travel, resulted in my first DSLR purchase.

My trip was the most valuable learning experience I may ever have. It reminded me of the world’s abundance of beauty, environmental issues, and taught me what is most important in life; the people, the moments, the happiness.

In a secluded ricefield in Vietnam, I shot a portrait of a local man. Amazed at seeing himself on the display screen, he decided to give photography a shot. The result was an ‘artistic’ shot of the grass and my lower body.

The opportunity to take a photo is a gift so many are deprived of, once we realize this we can truly appreciate the sound of the shutter.

By embracing a culture with the assistance of a camera, one can learn, grow, and tell a story. The present must be carefully constructed so that the memories will provide us with the most satisfaction for when we look back. In other words, we must capture the moments in life which give us most joy.
