Priests are still highly revered in the Philippines, and are considered the voice of God. Children are hoisted on their fathers' shoulders, along with rosaries, leaflets, and other religious artefacts to receive the final blessing after the mass. Items blessed by priests are believed to improve the lives of their owner. Outside, the market continues to thrive: the merchants struggle to make a few bucks selling superstitous items to unwitting parishioners hoping for a bit of luck.
