My Scholarship entry - El Camino de Santiago

Inspired by video essayists like John Bresland—whose multimedia essays are an amalgam of video, photography, sound, music, and literature—I picked up photography only a few years ago to supplement my writing. It was while studying journalism and nonfiction that I grew conscious of the changes we're starting to see in how we communicate, and of the permeability between different forms of artistic expression. The semantics of genre and craft aside, we find that people search for one thing in art: story.
I don’t make a personal distinction between writing, photography, filmmaking; through all these forms of communication, I’m attempting to translate something new and profound. I am impassioned by compelling, inspiring, and unspoken narratives, and I use whatever tools available to me to best recall those stories. I believe, sincerely, that shared experiences can catalyze social change, so why should expression be limited by form and genre?
The World Nomads Scholarship is an opportunity for me to get formal training and mentorship in photography. It’s an opportunity for me to bring not only my photography, but my storytelling to the next level.
