The end of the earth - Svalbard, Norway

My Scholarship entry - The end of the earth - Svalbard, Norway

Norway | Sunday, November 23, 2014 | 5 photos

I received my first camera as a teenager, a basic point-and-shoot which came with me on my first trip overseas. As I travelled around the USA with my family, I kept a visual catalogue of the places I had been – the Statue of Liberty, the Golden Gate Bridge and countless other landmarks.
Fifteen years later my approach to travel photography has changed completely. Taking photographs helps me to slow down and observe details about a place. It is also a way to capture my emotional response to that place.
Around 18 months ago I bought my first DSLR, which has inspired me to take my photography to the next level. It has accompanied me on several trips since then, and I am out most weekends photographing the beautiful eastern suburbs beaches of Sydney where I live.
My background is in environmental management, and nature and landscape photography inspire me most.
I recently enrolled in an introductory photography course at Sydney TAFE and I will be continuing photographic studies at TAFE next year.
In 2016 my husband and I will be taking a 12 month break from our careers to travel around South America, pursuing our interest in travel photography.
