My Scholarship entry - Mountains that move you
Vietnam | Saturday, November 1, 2014 | 5 photos
Hello, I am writing from a small cafe in the heart of Sapa Town in the North of Vietnam. I am living here for two months, volunteering with a grassroots project called Sapa O'Chau which supports local ethnic minorities to gain education and employment. Vietnam is the first stop in my (fingers crossed!) long solo adventure through this big wide world. I grew up in Sydney, a city I love, but in search of new opportunities, experiences, friends, languages and food I left on a quest to find what I couldn't in my hometown.
Sapa feels like a home away from home. Motor biking out of Sapa into remote hill tribe villages to practice my Vietnamese and Hmong language, encounter delicious freshly cooked Bun Cha and witness mind blowing landscapes featuring mountains, rice terraces and Buffaloes has me feeling very content and grateful. The mountains have been my most captured scene so far, somedays hidden behind mist and fog, other days the clear sky is scattered with jagged peaks, frighteningly similar to a scene from Lord of the Rings.
My journey so far has been a whirlwind of incredible experiences and adventures. Where to next? A very good question but no point asking, let's just see!
