Life in between
A geographical border is hard to cross. An ideological border is almost impossible.
My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Guatemala | Wednesday, July 3, 2013 | 5 photos
Since I read, “If your pictures aren't good enough, you aren't close enough” I got stunned. I live in a violent country so I started to get closer to the migration reality, which is hard and dangerous to explore. I visited the Mexico frontier with Guatemala which is a place where prostitution begins unwittingly at a very early age, the constant violation to human rights and poverty turn migration into the only resource to avoid the white slave traffic controlled by the racketeering, besides many other crimes.
These photos are made with a hidden camera and made me fall in love with those women’s strength and hope in reaching “a better life”. With this, I’m not trying to tell one story, I’m telling many.
Photography is helping me make visible something that it’s being ignored. I love photojournalism and I’m about to start my master degree in Latin-American cultural studies. I wish I had more knowledge to transform stories into images, so far i've tried but I think there’s so much to tell, deeper, and this prize could give me that opportunity. I’d love making people see that there are many other realities, and besides that, we are all still humans living in the same world.
